What’s my ITP visitor count?

Getting insights into the number of Safari visitors that you have on your website is straight forward – here’s how!

Google Analytics (with Template)

Apple developed Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP), limiting the expiration of your marketing cookies. In other words, cookies that are placed on your website by platforms like Google Analytics and Facebook are restricted from collecting data.

ITP block on 1st party cookies is included from Safari 12. From iOS14, ITP has also been extended by default to all browsers in iOS.

To determine the number of ‘ITP users’ in your audience with Google Analytics, you can either:

  1. Use our Data studio Template.
  2. Check on Google Analytics, manually.

Before starting, make sure that you are logged in and have selected the correct Account, Property and, View. It is recommended to view the numbers on a month-by-month basis.

Data Studio Template

To get started, choose the website you want to check and choose a sample period (top-left).

Once, you’ve done that, you should see the number of your ITP visitors in the white box.

This is the sum of:

(1) the number of iOS14+ users and,

(2) the number of Safari12+ users on desktop.

In most cases, choosing one representative month as a sample may suffice.

However, depending on your business, you may get a more accurate number by computing the average of several months. That is, setting the period to more months and dividing the total by the number of months.

Example – 1 month (Google Analytics Demo Account)

For these examples we use the Google Analytics Demo account – UA Google Merchandise Store.

First, we chose the source and selected the Demo account. Second, we set the date for the month of October – Oct 1 to Oct 31, 2021.

The exact count of ITP users is 12 444 in October 2021.

Example – n months average

Another way to do it, would be to select a longer date range.

Period: June 1, 2021 – Oct 31, 2021 (5 months).

ITP monthly users count = 56 443 (total of ITP users) / 5 (number of months) = 11 289.

This is the average of monthly ITP users for the past 5 months since June 2021.

Google Analytics

If you prefer to check by yourself on Google Analytics, you will need to:

  1. Check your Safari 12+ users (desktop) count
  2. Check your iOS14+ users count
  3. Compute the total count of monthly ITP users

Monthly ITP users = [(Total of Safari 12+ desktop users) + (Total of iOS14+ users)] / Number of months

Not sure about how to do that? Here’s a step-by-step guide with video.

Once you have the number of your ITP monthly users, you will have a good idea of the impact of ITP on your business. And, if you’ll decide to test out Cookie Saver for 14 days for free, you should also be able to choose a suitable plan for your business.

Adobe Analytics

Getting an overview over the share of Safari users to your website using Adobe Analytics can be done in two easy steps. First ensure that you are signed in as the correct Organization and the correct Report Suite is selected.

It is recommended to view the numbers on a month-by-month basis.

Step 1

In Adobe Analytics, select Reports and type “browser” in the search field. This will allow you to quickly select the Browsers report, which is located under Visitor Profile > Technology. The result is a report of all browsers used by your website users.

Step 2

For the Accutics Cookie Saver, it is the Unique Visitors metrics that you will need to take note of, especially for Safari users.

To filter out all Safari users, simply filter for “safari” in the filter box just above the report table. This will group both desktop, tablet and mobile Safari users and give you a total view of you overall Safari users and the impact of ITP 2.1 and 2.2.
